PBCJA and Legal Aid Society Consumer Advocacy Clinic

On March 8, 2023, from 5:30pm-7:30pm, the Palm Beach County Justice Association (“PBCJA”) will be working with the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County (“LASPBC”) to host a Consumer Protection Clinic during National Consumer Protection Week at the LASPBC to help disadvantaged, low-income consumers who cannot afford an attorney and are in need of legal assistance. At the clinic, attorneys in our community will be assisting consumers with the process of preparing and filing pro se answers and affirmative defenses to consumer debt lawsuits. Attorneys will also be assisting consumers whose wages or bank accounts have been garnished by judgement creditors, with the process of filling out pro se Claim of Exemption forms so that they can claim certain exemptions under Florida law and stop garnishments of consumers’ much needed funds.

On February 10, 2023, the PBCJA will be hosting a 1.5-hour webinar training to prepare attorneys so they will be able to assist consumers with their pro se cases at this event.
